Blue Valentine
When this movie first came out I actually told myself I was never going to see it. At first glance it looks like a boring, self-involved po-mo downer artsy cah-cah. And it some ways it is, but in an incredible way. It's so emotionally charged and "human" that for two and half hours you really have no choice but to be sucked into a film that brings you places I frankly didn't know a film could. It's definitely not a feel-good movie (though I saw it as a hopeful story, though most of my friends disagree) but absolutely worth seeing.
