Jay-Z

was interviewed on Charlie Rose the other day, and it was excellent. He's promoting his book, Decoded.

Among lots of interesting things, he discusses the experience of an entire generation that grew up with and shaped hip hop as a genre. He discusses hie entré into rap, the danger and mundaneness of the hustler's existence, the question of moral responsibility as a dealer in the midst of a crack epidemic that was destroying many many lives, the relativity of morality in where crime and anarchy are the norm ... and how white people invariably mispronounce "Tupac". Basically, he aims to provide a historical context to hip hop as a genre and culture, and does it in a really funny way.

Check it out, yo.

I'm going home tomorrow

These are all the known galaxies in the observable universe

NASA recently created this Universe tour using images from the Hubble Space Telescope and other sources, placing each of them in 3D space in relation to our viewing point.

Oops, oh my.

So here is a very cool song (also a COVER! OMG!). It has the added, awkward bonus of featuring some super 'sessey' footage of Lindsay Lohan doing rather osé stuff (a few of the viewer comments: Lindsey is a HOT MESS!!!! and OMGZ I SAW A NIPPLE sum it up nicely).

Well, it's entertaining if nothing else!!
Here is the original version of the song, which... Oh dear God. this whole SONG is about dark-sided things!!! Those lyrics! That gyratin'! It ain't Christian, I tell you! (It's a good thing I'm not wearing my God Warrior hat this evening, or this post would not have happened).

No but seriously, that first song is sweet.

'night!

Save the Date!

A religious group claiming to know when Jesus will return have put up advertisements on billboards to remind residents just when that day will be. Billboards such as this have gone up in Omaha and Nashville, Tenn. and can also be found in Atlanta, Detroit, Kansas City and St. Louis.

Quiz: What does the "RMS" in the title stand for?

Covers - Falling Down

The Original: Tom Waits

The Revision: Scarlett Johansson

This is a live version by S.J. (I can't embed the studio version, but it sounds different and lovely-- almost like it was recorded underwater. I think David Bowie collaborated on the track, too). She actually did an entire album of Tom Waits covers, which drew mixed reviews, especially from die-hard Waits fans (among whom I can't say I count myself...).
I thoroughly enjoy her album though.
I guess both of them are kindof an acquired taste...ENJOOOOOOOYYYYY
