Acid-Tripping Housewife can see "all the molecules" OR LSD REsearch in the 1950s

Acid-Tripping Housewife Can ‘See All the Molecules’

As every college student knows, there is almost nothing funnier than watching a person try to narrate her acid trips. Especially when that person is a housewife in the year 1956. As she says, "I can see all the molecules!"
A housewife! On acid! Oh, the incongruity! The hilarity!
Acid-expert author Don Lattin dug up this clip of drug-researching psychiatrist Sidney Cohen (here's his New York Time obituary) interviewing an unnamed middle-aged woman while she experiences her first acid trip. And, wow! What a goofball! Not that I have notebooks full of acid-trip observations. Or anything. Via Gawker

The Importance of the Oxford Comma

The serial comma (also known as the Oxford comma or Harvard comma, and sometimes referred to as the series comma) is the comma used immediately before a coordinating conjunction (usually and or or, and sometimes nor) preceding the final item in a list of three or more items. For example, a list of three countries can be punctuated as either "Portugal, Spain, and France" (with the serial comma) or as "Portugal, Spain and France" (without the serial comma).

Above is one argument why it is an important punctual convention.

Chris Rock on race and "progress"

Interviewer: How do you think things have changed over the last couple of decades?
CR: Umm... white people have gotten less crazy. (...) You can say there is progress and all this, but... when you say it's "progress", you're acting like what happened before wasn't crazy. You know what I mean. So, "Oh, segregatio, we've made a lot of progress and there is no more segregation"... Segregation is re-tarded!..."

Funny & Smart

I love Sarah Silverman, she is bright, socially astute, and hilariously self-deprecating. She and Bill Maher also make really cutting commentary in this interview on the really terrible formulaic writing in most comedy films - and how it's especially dire for women characters...

Hipster Ariel

So apparently, there is this blog entitled, fittingly, Fuck Yeah Hipster Ariel. It's very funny. I guess a lot of the ingredients were right there in the original twenty years ago, weren't they: angst, a longing for someone her dad didn't approve of, alternative music, interest in non-mainstream art, feigning poverty...

Anyway, here are some of its finest pieces.
